Iration is an alternative/reggae group formed in Isla Vista, California, by musicians who originally hail from Hawaii. The band members—Micah Pueschel (lead vocals/guitar), Adam Taylor (bass), Joe Dickens (drums), Cayson Peterson (keyboard/synth), and Micah Brown (guitar/vocals)—met while growing up in Hawaii and reconnected during their college years in Santa Barbara, California. Their music blends reggae, rock, pop, and dub, creating a distinctive sound that resonates with a diverse audience. In 2006, Iration released their debut EP, "New Roots," which showcased their ability to fuse traditional reggae rhythms with modern influences. This initial release helped them build a reputation for energetic live performances, particularly in college towns such as Cal Poly SLO, Chico State, and UC Davis.
The following year, they released their first full-length album, "No Time for Rest," which topped the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. The single "Cookie Jar" from this album reached number one in Hawaii and was featured on Fuel TV’s Triple Crown of Surfing recap. The band's second album, "Time Bomb," released in 2010, solidified their position in the reggae fusion genre. The album featured hits like "Turn Around" and "Falling," earning significant airplay and charting on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Subsequent albums, including "Automatic" (2013), "Hotting Up" (2015), and "Double Up" (2016), continued to expand their sound and appeal, each project demonstrating their ability to evolve while maintaining their signature style.
Iration's influence on the reggae fusion genre is substantial, as they have played a pivotal role in popularizing the sound and bringing it to a broader audience. Their seamless blend of reggae, rock, and pop elements has inspired a new generation of musicians and helped to redefine what reggae music can be. Their journey from local favorites to genre-defining artists is a testament to their talent, innovation, and unwavering commitment to their craft.
