Mike Love, born and raised on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, is a reggae musician whose music transcends traditional genre boundaries. One of his early significant experiences was fronting the 10-piece band Dubkonscious, where he expanded his talents as a composer, lyricist, arranger, and producer on the band's album "At the Foot of the Mountain." In 2008, Love embarked on a solo career, developing a unique one-man-band style that utilized looping, multiple instruments, and diverse vocal techniques. This innovative approach allowed him to create a full and powerful sound during live performances, captivating audiences and setting him apart in the reggae music scene. December 2012 marked the release of Love's debut solo album, "The Change I'm Seeking," which received critical acclaim. The album featured the hit track "Permanent Holiday," which went viral on YouTube, amassing millions of views and significantly expanding his global fan base. This success was followed by subsequent albums, including "Love Will Find a Way" and "Love Overflowing," further solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and evolving artist.
Throughout his career, Love has performed at numerous festivals and venues across the United States, South and Central America, Canada, Europe, East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. He has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Michael Franti, Trevor Hall, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Xavier Rudd, Rebelution, John Butler Trio, Groundation, Steel Pulse, Dave Matthews, and Jack Johnson. His performances are known for their energy, authenticity, and the powerful messages they convey. In addition to his solo work, Love has collaborated with various artists and projects. Notably, he worked with Clinton Fearon on the album "History Say" and participated in the Playing for Change project, contributing to the global movement that connects musicians worldwide.
He also formed a band named "Mike Love and the Full Circle," consisting of talented musicians who complement his vision and enhance his live performances. Love's music is deeply rooted in the spirituality and message-based traditions of reggae and Rastafari, while also incorporating elements of progressive and classic rock, soul, blues, flamenco, jazz, and classical music.
